The third World Championship in the youngest cycling discipline was hosted by Leuven, Belgium. You can feel the Belgians‘ love of cycling at every turn in Flanders. The Gravel Championship had one specialty not seen today. All amateur categories started on the same track a few minutes late. Since they had one final circuit shorter, they met the stars of contemporary cycling during the race on the roads of the Brabant Forest National Park.
The race in the elite categories was dominated by the Dutch.
Marianne Vos won her 12th world title only in the final sprint with Lotte Kopecky.
It was Mathieu van der Poel who decided his victory with a crushing start on the gravel climb in the Brabant Forest. He could thus enjoy the ovations of the packed streets of Leuven.
