Sparta Wins the Battle, Dragon Wins the War
In a dramatic second leg of the 2025 Extraliga promotion/relegation playoff, RC Sparta Praha defeated RC Dragon Brno 29–10 on home turf in Prague. Despite the convincing win, it wasn’t enough to overturn the massive deficit from the first leg, where Dragon triumphed 61–23. With an aggregate score of 71–52, Dragon Brno secured promotion to the Extraliga, while Sparta will compete in the 1st League next season.
The match in Prague was fiercely contested. Sparta came out determined, with Ondřej Bejček scoring the opening try in the 16th minute. Tomáš Forst added points with a successful conversion and another try, giving Sparta a 12–0 lead. Dragon responded with a try from Antonín Merta, but Sparta maintained control through disciplined defense and tactical kicking.
In the second half, Dragon narrowed the gap to 12–10, but Sparta surged again with tries from Matyáš Jandík and a second from Bejček. Despite the home side’s dominance on the day, the aggregate score was always in Dragon’s favor.
The match was not without drama — three yellow cards and a late red card for Lukáš Hřebačka added tension to an already intense encounter.
